2024 Early University Offers Are In!

Cecilia PEI

At BCIS, we firmly believe that the goal of education extends beyond just getting into university; it is about unlocking the doors to students' ideal institutions and empowering them for the next phase of their life journey. As the early application results reveal themselves, we are thrilled to see students from the Class of 2024 at BCIS receiving their initial wave of positive news from their dream schools, a testament to their unique backgrounds and experiences.

At BCIS, we believe the best university is the one that is the best fit for you. With this philosophy in mind, we encourage students to discover their passions during their learning journey, bolstering both their chances of finding themselves at that dream university and continuing to pursue their true interests into their post-school days. What defines the 'best' university? – Every student and their families have different views. BCIS respects this diversity of definitions and is committed to helping them achieve what they feel is best for them.

In this early application round, Grade 12 students have already received admissions from universities such as Northeastern University, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Florida, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Ohio State University, University College London, King's College London, University of Edinburgh, and offers from the University of Hong Kong, University of Toronto, University of Melbourne, and University of Amsterdam. Some of our students choose to apply to these universities, regarded as the "best" universities in their respective countries or regions, both due to their strong academic reputations and ability to provide students with a comprehensive and rigorous learning experience.

However, for some students, the "best" universities are those that excel in specific fields, providing exceptional environments and resources tailored to their interests. It's notable that students passionate about music and the arts have secured spots at institutions such as Berklee College of Music, School of Visual Arts in New York, and Savannah College of Art and Design. Those focused on STEM and business have received offers from Babson College, while others interested in the humanities and social sciences have been recognized by institutions like Wellesley College and Grinnell College—smaller private colleges known for their excellent engagement, community, and research opportunities.

Deciding what is your "best" university also involves considering factors such as cultural atmosphere, employment prospects, resources, and city life experience, all of which relate to their future careers and life paths. As of now, 510 students have graduated from BCIS. Some have chosen to stay local, or explore global opportunities for their careers, contributing to their communities and industries. Grade 12 students have received university acceptances from seven countries or regions, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong SAR, the Netherlands and Spain enriching our already far-reaching alumni map.

Given that every family has different priorities and needs, BCIS believes there is no one definitive answer to the best university. Some may value the prestige schools, while others see the limitations of general rankings and opt to prioritize specific programs instead. For some, the choice of university might revolve around the city it's situated in and how well it fits their future career and lifestyle aspirations.

So, when it comes to the "best" university, for BCIS, the ideal answer is the "best-fit" university—a place that aligns with one's personality and interests, making future learning and life enjoyable. It should provide opportunities to pursue passions, benefit future careers and life paths, and constantly strive to be the best version of oneself. BCIS hopes that the community's learning experiences can be the first step towards opening the door to dream universities. More importantly, the passions, personal goals, and lifelong learning abilities discovered at BCIS can inspire and support journeys of learning and exploration around the world. To achieve this, BCIS will continue to provide a wide range of resources and support.

Recently, BCIS received positive feedback from the International Baccalaureate (IB) organization on its re-authorization. Additionally, BCIS has also been reaccredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), affirming its commitment to high-quality learning, student well-being, and cross-cultural global citizenship education. To help more students embark on the exciting learning experiences held within this learning community, BCIS is set to launch its latest scholarship program. This program not only continues scholarships for community members but also offers scholarship opportunities, covering more grade levels, for external students wishing to join the BCIS secondary school.
