Beijing City International School (BCIS) is an independent, not-for-profit, co-educational day school offering an international curriculum for Nursery to Grade 12 students. Our mission is to educate and empower students to be compassionate and inspired people, who act for the good of all and for the sustainable development of the world. Beijing City International School offers the PYP, MYP, and DP programmes to students from over 50 nationalities. Such a diversified environment itself enables our students to develop international and intercultural awareness and understanding, which is one of our main educational emphases and prepares our students to become real world citizens.

BCIS has a strong faculty and management team, with teachers and administrators from 17 different countries and regions who have substantial experience in international education. Many of our teachers are also IB trainers and examiners. State-of-the-art Facilities

Beijing City International School is located in the central business district of Beijing. On a land area of 51,000 square meters, the campus was purpose-built with spacious classrooms, science labs, libraries, indoor swimming pool, indoor gymnasium, outdoor soccer field and track, performing arts studios, visual arts studios, and a 300-seat theatre. School buildings have 100% wireless coverage. Information technology is a key enabler and an integral part of teaching and learning at BCIS to help prepare our students with the skills and capabilities essential for the 21st century.

A Passport to Higher Education

The International Baccalaureate (IB) was founded in Switzerland in 1967. One of the major advantages of the IB system is that it allows its graduates to fulfill the requirements of various national systems of education, and it is based on the pattern of no single country. The primary objective of the IB programme is to provide a world-class education that prepares students of different linguistic, cultural, and educational backgrounds with the intellectual, social, and critical perspectives necessary for university and indeed the rest of their lives. For four decades thousands of young adults from all continents have earned the IB Diploma and have gained admissions to leading institutions of higher education. The continued expansion of the IBDP into international schools and national educational systems indicates its growing reputation and stature in education across the globe.

Our students therefore have access to a wide range of higher educational institutions around the globe. All of them recognize and eagerly seek after IB Diploma holders, including top universities such as Harvard (US), Yale (US), Stanford (US), MIT (US), Oxford (UK), Cambridge (UK), University of British Columbia (Canada), and University of Auckland (New Zealand). Many universities offer scholarships and advanced placement for IBDP graduates as they are considered to be stronger than other students in breadth of knowledge, critical thinking, communications skills, self-management, and motivation. Universities recognize that the IBDP prepares students not only for admission to tertiary education but also for continuing academic success once they have been enrolled.

At BCIS we have a dedicated counselor who works closely with the students and parents to help with university applications. Mr. Anthony Carman, our Whole School Counselor, has close to 30 years experience in international education across three continents. University counseling support starts in G9 with discussions about career goals, subject selections, application strategies, and university requirements. A number of higher institutions are also invited to present on campus throughout the academic year.
