Primary Years Programme Curriculum Overview (Nursery – Grade 5)
|
Our elementary students at BCIS enjoy state of the art facilities which include spacious homerooms and specialist teaching areas. BCIS is an authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) school, which is designed for students aged 3 to 12. The PYP focuses on the total growth of the developing child encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development. The Primary Years Programme draws on research and best practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for all children. Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Information Technology are taught by homeroom teachers and specialists teach Visual Arts, Music, Physical Education, Chinese Studies, English Language Learners (ELL) and Library. Our students excel in a stimulating, caring environment where individual talents as well as teamwork are emphasized. Assemblies are held monthly to share successes, give students the opportunity to perform in our professional theatre and to bring our Elementary School community together on a regular basis. Parents are always welcome. Parents are an important part of the Elementary School team and each homeroom has a Homeroom Parent who provides a link between parents and school for a variety of projects. Student learning is reinforced and extended through off-site field trips, in-house speakers and experts and sharing amongst peers. |
