Student Support

BCIS offers a whole school Student Support programme. It is staffed by a Guidance Counselor, Mr. Anthony Carman, and two Learning Support teachers, Dr. Reed Rhodes in the Elementary School and Mrs. Pushpa Dasari in the Middle and High Schools.

The Student Support programme exists to ensure that all students are able to access the curriculum by addressing needs that impede or inhibit this access. The Student Support programme merges the expertise of traditional guidance and counseling roles and those of the learning support teachers to create a more comprehensive service that is better able to support students. The Student Support programme aims to assist students who exhibit learning, social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties. Students enter the programme through a referral process initiated by their classroom teachers or their parents or by providing documentation of having received support at a previous school. Students who are admitted to BCIS must be able to be successful in the regular classroom with minimal assistance from the Student Support programme.

The Student Support programme offers a variety of services. In some cases, individual psycho-educational assessments may be conducted. Some students may have an Individualized Educational Programme (IEP) that describes specific goals and objectives for the school year, as well as accommodations in their classes. All services are designed to meet the individual needs of each student.
