ES Open Day
One can say that our Elementary School (ES) parents were just as gleeful as their children last Friday. Why? They were invited into school for Open Day, to attend class with their children! The young Warriors seized the opportunity and every minute with their family members as they showed them the big and small things which all contribute to their fun-filled, stimulating learning every day at BCIS. As winter departs, and our parents, grandparents and caregivers' return to our campuses, school is feeling very warm again.
Growing Up and Moving Up
Main Campus has been buzzing with a few more busy bodies most mornings. Over four weeks, our intrepid Kindergartners are making the journey across from the Early Childhood Center (ECC) to Main Campus, as they begin their transition from KG to Grade 1. Raring with anticipation, our kindergarten students were proudly given a taster of all they have been looking forward to by their Grade 1 peers.
Early March saw Grade 6 students enlightening the school with dynamic Chinese presentations, focusing on seven of the most familiar minority ethnic groups in China. Each student chose one minority ethnic group to research and speak about. They intrigued their audience with diverse perspectives, connecting their Chinese studies, language and love for their host country. The Grade 6s were assessed by their elder peers, the Grade 9s, who were especially engaging and encouraging.
Learning at Beijing City International School (BCIS) is painted in colour, with students and teachers enjoying creative, authentic learning experiences. In a one-to-one beginner Chinese language class, a Grade 9 student learned about the connotation of colours in traditional Chinese culture, boldly seen in Peking Opera make-up. She thoroughly enjoyed practicing her Chinese, expanding her cultural knowledge and dialogue with her thoughtful teacher, all while painting her Peking Opera mask!
Come and See!
Later in the month of March, BCIS community members were delighted with an opening afternoon at the IB Visual Art Exhibition. The Secondary School's (SS) fifth floor erupted with an elegant flair boasting original creations. Each Grade 12 IB Visual Art student presented a quartet, curated from their personally chosen theme, to present to admiring viewers. In the spirit of BCIS, our Grade 11 students' artworks were on show too, celebrating our visual arts community.
