While their younger peers enjoy the amazing sights and culture of our host country, China, as part of their Week Without Walls (WWW), students in Grade 12 have been keeping themselves busy with Study Week. Although this is a very important time for the seniors to use to complete their Community Action Service (CAS) hours, which is a compulsory component of the International Baccalaureate curriculum, as well as Extended Essays and so forth, it is also the perfect opportunity to impart in them great life skills beyond the classroom. With their final year in full session, the majority of students will soon leave the comforts of home and strike out on their own, making it essential they learn proper skills to survive. That is why during Study Week, the teachers prepare special lessons to share knowledge regarding how to prepare a home-cooked meal (chicken fajitas!); how to destress after a long day (yoga); how to protect oneself and escape from an unwanted situation (Krav Maga self-defense); and how to remain fit and healthy (Zumba). Indeed, at BCIS, we do our best to make certain all students are empowered and prepared to take on the world and become inspirations to others.
