Welcome to the Elementary School (ES)

“I warmly welcome you to the Elementary School section of BCIS, which serves students from Grade 1 to Grade 5.

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is the framework for our international curriculum. The early years and primary years set the foundation for future learning and we take the responsibility of caring for your children very seriously. We truly believe that learning takes place when we make connections to personal experiences and build upon prior knowledge and understanding. We place emphasis on the learning of concepts, skills and attitudes, as well as knowledge, as we prepare our students for their journey into secondary education and beyond.

Not only do we have an excellent inquiry-based program at BCIS, we also have an experienced, dedicated faculty, excellent facilities and a desire to ensure that all of our students are seen as individuals and are given opportunities to reach their highest levels. Our experienced staff, who hail from various countries, backgrounds and systems, are highly qualified and experienced and together bring many years of experience to BCIS. I am proud to work with a team of teachers who are so dedicated to their profession.

It is our hope that parents will be an active part of their children's learning, and fully aware of what their children are doing in the classroom. To that end, we regularly communicate with home up-to-date information on your child's current projects, classroom activities and other learning areas. We encourage all parents to be active communicators so that they are fully aware of everything they need to know about their children's school lives.

We encourage a balance of experiences at BCIS and you will discover that there is always a variety of events and learning opportunities taking place within our school, which encompass academic, art, music, sport and so much more.

Learning is best achieved when we are active in the learning process and I encourage our parents to be active in their child's learning whilst at BCIS.”

Kind Regards,

Sally Richmond
