Welcome to the Secondary School section. Our Secondary School covers Grades 6 to 12. In Grades 6, 7 and 8, our students work through the first three years of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). In Grades 9 and 10 students are finishing the last two years of their IB MYP, while the Grade 11 and 12 students are engaged in their IB Diploma Programme (DP). We also offer our own BCIS Diploma that students can use in support of their applications to colleges and universities around the world.
At the time of writing, we have around 360 Secondary School students, coming from over 40 different countries. Aligned with the School’s mission, our Secondary School ensures that all teachers and students work for the greater good of all.
The middle school years (Grades 6–8) at BCIS aim to extend the inquiry-based approach that the IB Primary Years Programme offers while also preparing the students for the rigors, challenges and demands of the International Baccalaureate MYP and DP. In addition, we strive to make the program relevant for our culturally diverse student body. The Middle School years are a time when students are exploring who they are and where they fit into the scheme of school and further education. They want to increase the level of independence in their own decision-making, and our task as educators, in partnership with parents, is to guide them along this road with both patience and understanding.
The high school years (Grades 9–12) lead to the completion of the MYP and The Personal Project at the end of Grade 10. At Grades 11 and 12, students work towards the completion of the DP. Our programs provide not only rigor and challenge, but depth, breadth and variety across most disciplines. Our academic and co-curricular programs provide students with enriching experiences and opportunities. We are committed to providing an international education of the highest standards of academic excellence maintained by highly qualified and knowledgeable teachers. Keeping abreast of change and innovative educational trends maintains our cutting-edge position.
The BCIS Mission, Vision and Philosophy form the foundation of our curriculum, and we aim for each student to achieve the highest possible level in each area. Our international curriculum and resources act to bring about quality of opportunity in all fields for our students as we move into a changing and challenging global environment.
We encourage each parent to maintain a high level of interest and involvement in their child’s learning. We need you to be part of the team of teachers and parents that surround your son/daughter with support as they strive to succeed in school.Through our ManageBac system, you can find all the latest course information that your child is engaged in at school. We also have a weekly Newsletter sent out each Wednesday via email, which contains a lot of useful information on upcoming events, school announcements, PTA information and more.
Please join us in feeling very proud to be a part of Beijing City International School. We look forward to welcoming you to the School and trust that the year ahead will be a very successful one.
