Our Secondary School is home to students from Grade 6 to 12. In Grades 6 to 10, we offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). In Grade 11 and 12, students have the choice to pursue the IB Diploma Programme (DP), BCIS IDEATE Program or the BCIS Diploma Program.
Through our Secondary School Learning Model, students develop as critical and creative thinkers, connected learners and purposeful doers. We achieve this by empowering students’ initiative, encouraging learning by doing, prioritizing social and emotional learning and reinforcing knowledge, concepts and context. This approach allows students to seek out their own personal learning pathways, meet personalized challenges and demonstrate success in a variety of ways.
The impact-based approach to learning adopted in MYP, DP and IDEATE, equips students with the competencies and capabilities needed to adapt, thrive and contribute in a rapidly changing future.
Message from the Principal
In the Secondary School, learning is student centered, future focused, and mission driven. Students are provided with opportunities to link what they are learning in class with the real world through experiences in the local community, the country, and the world. They interact regularly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to ensure that their BCIS education is relevant and purposeful. Our state-of-the-art facilities allow students access to technology that enhances their learning experiences and our Secondary School Learning Model is a guiding force that keeps the learning that takes place in each classroom, student interest club, and enrichment activity focused on developing Impacts that provide them with the skills they need to succeed in an ever-changing world. Our Learning Model is the over-arching framework that embraces our IB World and our bespoke IDEATE Program curricula. Built on the foundation of “My BCIS, My China, My World”, an education at BCIS is proudly and strongly rooted in China, and prepares students for wherever they may go when they leave us.
