For twenty years, BCIS has been a leader in integrating technology with teaching. The school implemented full wireless network coverage from its founding. 15 years ago, the school became an Apple Distinguished School and has multiple Apple-certified teachers. All grade levels use advanced learning software and interactive learning platforms, integrating technology into teaching. As society explores artificial intelligence (AI), the school has proposed guidelines for its ethical use, cultivating "digital citizenship."
Through the Global Online Academy (GOA), BCIS offers world-class courses, fostering independent learning skills and providing guidance. The Learning Analysis Center (LAC) provides data-driven assessment of student learning and teacher effectiveness.
Technology education is integrated across all grade levels.
In kindergarten, children explore programming and logical thinking through play. In elementary school, a coding club developed by Stanford design alumni combines fun and intellectual challenges. In middle school, robotics and science are required courses. In grades 11-12, students can focus on physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, or design technology, using their specialized learning to support future university applications.
The elementary Maker Space, the secondary Design Tech Workshop, and the new APEX Center are hubs for innovation, bringing together tech-loving students to inspire creativity and exploration. BCIS students have achieved great results in international events such as the ACAMIS VEX Competition and the Lego Robotics Competition, showcasing their strengths and potential.

In September 2024, the BCIS Parkside Kindergarten in the Lotte Gonge Family community in Tongzhou welcomed its first students and parents. Adjacent to a 30,000-square-meter community park, the kindergarten integrates nature and community-based education, filling a gap in high-quality international early childhood education in the area.
Learning flourishes in a boundless environment, growing in nature's embrace. In the park, children explore nature, unleashing their creativity and imagination. They experience the joy of tilling and planting, build farms, and learn to care for plants. Green education becomes a bridge connecting children deeply with nature. A pervasive reading environment transforms reading into a way of life, subtly fostering independent reading habits through music, role-playing, and storytelling.
Each BCIS kindergarten exemplifies the concept of "intergenerational integration." The Parkside Kindergarten is an integral part of the Gonge Family community. Here, children build close relationships with seniors through visits, shared activities, and festive celebrations. Amidst the sounds of children calling out "Grandpa, Grandma, let's have tea!" intergenerational warmth flows, conveying care and respect. Children's life education unfolds in real community settings, teaching them to be human, to live, to learn, and to create.
2024年9月,位于北京通州半壁店乐成养老恭和家园社区的乐成公园幼儿园迎来了第一批学生和家长。幼儿园毗邻3万平方米的美学社区公园,将自然与社区教育理念融为一体,填补了该区域高品质国际幼儿教育的空白。

A Conversation Between the family the community and the world 一场家庭、社区与世界的对话


Over the past 20 years, BCIS has developed three strategic plans.
The first, in 2011-2014, involved experts guiding the development of measurable goals in areas such as school mission, academic rigor, Chinese curriculum, university applications, and community building.
The second, in 2016-2019, was led by the principals and management team, setting a clear direction for development, laying a foundation for the next century, and defining innovative educational plans and a three-year vision.
The third, in 2022-2023, involved community-wide engagement facilitated by international strategy experts. The school's founder, board, and leadership team invited NoTosh, a global educational consultancy, to help define the school's direction in an unconventional way, starting a community-wide dialogue. Over 180 days, 264 interviews with community members discussed key issues, generating over 300 pages of records. On March 16, 2023, the school announced three strategic priorities: "Student Agency," "Leadership," and "Collaboration," all supporting the school's vision and mission.
Each strategic upgrade guides the BCIS learning community and energizes its progress.
二十年来,北京乐成国际学校经历过三次战略目标的制定。
第一次,在专家的指导下,采用国际通用工作坊的形式,制定了2011—2014年的战略目标,为学校使命、教学严谨、中文课程、大学申请、社区建设等方面制定了可衡量的指标。
第二次,由校长和管理团队主导,制定了2016—2019年战略计划,明确发展方向、奠定百年基石,确定了创新教育规划和三年展望。
第三次,在国际战略专家的指导下,通过倾听每一位社区成员的声音,共筑战略升级。2022年初,学校的创始人、董事会和领导团队邀请全球知名的教育咨询公司 “NoTosh”以一种不同寻常的方法来定义学校的方向,开启了一场前所未有的全社区深度对话。历时180余天,涵盖264次与社区成员的访谈,围绕数十个关键议题展开探讨,生成了超过300页的详实记录。2023年3月16日,确定三大战略重点并正式发布,以“自驱力”为核心,“领导力”和“协作力”共同支持学校愿景与使命的实现。
每一次的战略升级不仅是一纸蓝图,更是乐成学习者社区的指导方向和前行动力。

BCIS aims to cultivate not only academic talents but also responsible global citizens through green education. Integrating core socialist values and UN Sustainable Development Goals into its curriculum, culture, and practices, the school engages students in exploring environmental issues and finding innovative solutions in real-world contexts.
BCIS "Eco Warriors" organize eco-markets, create ecological garden clubs, and use hydroponics, aquaponics, and carbon capture to build interdisciplinary green labs. They deepen their understanding of sustainability in practice and win awards both at home and abroad. BCIS kindergartens (LEED Gold certified), the solar greenhouse, and the gymnasium's self-irrigating ecosystem all embed environmental education into our facilities as a “working classroom”.
Sustainability is not just an educational method but a way of inspiring students to respect nature, consider the future, and act on their commitments. In green environments, students raise their environmental awareness and contribute to the sustainable development of China and the world, making green values a part of their lives.

BCIS empowers students to become healthy individuals, well-rounded learners, and ethical influencers. Education has shifted from an industrialized emphasis on standardization to a personalized, intelligent era emphasizing creativity. Fostering self-drive is key to unlocking creativity and building confidence and responsibility.
Self-drive is central to BCIS's educational practice and identity. The school commits to engaging learners fully, inspiring and empowering them to think critically and creatively in the face of challenges.
BCIS kindergartens ignite children's curiosity through play-based exploration and carefully constructed learning environments that help them understand the world and create actively. BCIS Elementary School uses inquiry-based, transdisciplinary learning, encouraging students to ask questions and seek answers across various themes: time, space, science, technology, society, self-growth, and daily life. BCIS Secondary School encourages students to explore academic interests, express creativity, and take action in real-world contexts. The Avenir Business Competition is one of BCIS’s most renowned student-led projects. Participants face real-world challenges in a simulated business environment, building business acumen and teamwork skills through market analysis, strategy development, and fundraising pitches. Since its founding, Avenir has attracted talented teams from around the world with its professional structure, real business cases, and international outlook.
“Student Voice, Student Choice” reflects BCIS’s student-centered philosophy, encouraging students to express their ideas and make autonomous choices. It is more than a slogan; it is a guiding principle in the BCIS educational community.

Avenir商赛是乐成最知名的学生主导的项目之一。 参赛学生在模拟商业环境中直面真实挑战,从市场分析、战略制定到融资路演,全方位锻炼商业素养与团队协作能力。自创办以来,Avenir商赛以其专业的赛制、真实的商业案例和国际化视野,每年吸引来自全球学校的优秀团队参与角逐。

Empowering Student Agency 从赋能到传授, 点燃每一位学生的自驱力


In 2020, the sudden pandemic put everything on hold. Facing this global challenge, BCIS quickly transitioned to full-time online learning on February 3, among the first schools to do so.
In June, despite the ongoing pandemic, the school held a meaningful graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020. In August, after communicating with the government, the school reopened under strict health standards. Though 74 international teachers were overseas, they and the teachers and staff in Beijing ensured orderly teaching through blended learning. Online learning was integrated deeply into in-person teaching, providing students with diverse learning options.
Even during these unusual times, BCIS maintained its focus on "impactful learning," encouraging students to explore and care about the world. Teachers and students collaborated to donate masks to organizations, supporting the front lines of the fight against the pandemic in Wuhan and Hebei. During the pandemic, the school hosted its first "Shaping Our Future" forum, discussing educational transformation in the post-pandemic era.
Everyone shared gratitude and hope, celebrating all the festivals of the year together and truly making Beijing home.
这一年,突如其来的疫情将一切按下暂停键。面对这场全球挑战,北京乐成国际学校迅速行动,于2月3日成为首批过渡到全日制在线学习的学校之一。
6月,疫情阴霾虽未散去,学校依旧为2020届毕业生举办了一场意义非凡的毕业典礼。8月,在与政府积极沟通后,学校严格按照防疫标准重新开放,74名外籍教师虽身在海外,但通过线上线下混合学习模式,和坚守在北京的教师与运营团队,确保教学的有序进行。线上学习深度融入线下教学的方式,为学生提供更加多元的学习选择。
即使在特殊时期,乐成依然坚持“基于影响力的学习”模式,鼓励学生自主探索、关心世界。师生携手合作,向机构捐赠口罩,为武汉、河北的抗疫前线送去支持与温暖。疫情期间,学校举办了首届 “创造我们的未来(Shaping Our Future)”论坛,深度思考探讨后疫情时代的教育变革。
Overcoming Challenges with Gratitude and Hope 心怀感恩与信念,共渡难关


In 2019, a Qing Dynasty courtyard surrounded by pines became a learning haven for children. The collision of architecture and education—deemed "Beijing’s Most Beautiful Kindergarten"—came to life through late-night talks with architects.
The kindergarten blends the charm of a traditional courtyard with modern, flowing architecture, creating a space that is both classic and contemporary. Children can run freely on the floating roof, feeling the breeze; the interior design breaks from traditional classrooms, creating an open, boundless learning space. Here, traditional and modern elements intertwine, education and architecture coexist harmoniously, families and school connect closely, and Eastern and Western cultures merge, forming a unique "Courtyard Education" philosophy.
In this culturally rich space, children experience the seasons, tell Chinese stories in Chinese, express themselves in English, and begin their journey as global citizens. Family activities are warmly held amidst the courtyard’s blooming crabapple trees. Five years since opening, the ancient bricks from 300 years ago are quietly revitalized by laughter, as if BCIS's Courtyard Kindergarten is hosting "a dialogue between 1725 and 2019."
2019年,一座被青松环绕的清代四合院成为了孩子们筑梦的乐园,“京城最美幼儿园”建筑与教育理念的碰撞,在和建筑师深夜对话中,灵感迸发,应运而生。
幼儿园园区巧妙的融合了四合院的古朴韵味与现代建筑的流线设计,打造了一个既传统又现代的空间。孩子们可以在漂浮的屋顶上自由奔跑,感受微风拂面;室内设计打破了传统教室的局限,创造了一个开放、无边界的学习空间。在这里,传统与未来的元素交织,教育与建筑和谐共生,家庭与学校紧密联系,东方与西方的文化在此交融,形成了独特的“四合教育理念”。
孩子们在这片充满文化张力的院落中,感受四季更迭,用中文讲述中国故事、用英文表达自我,体验中西文化的碰撞与融合,开启成为全球小小公民的旅程。在海棠花雨的簇拥下,家庭活动也在此温馨举行。开园五年,三百年的古老砖瓦在欢声笑语中悄然复苏,似乎在乐成四合院幼儿园进行着“一场1725与2019的对话”。

BCIS launched its scholarship program to encourage students to explore their passions and contribute to society. Over 130 students have benefited, showcasing the school's commitment to nurturing talent and community spirit.
Scholarships cover various fields, including leadership, innovation, and academic excellence. Recipients have demonstrated outstanding achievements in academics, charity projects, and sports, inspiring others around them. These scholarships not only recognize individual achievements but also foster a culture of community service and leadership.

In 2017, building on 12 years of IB experience, the YueCheng Education Research Institute partnered with experts to create the IDEATE program. Focusing on project-based learning, personalized practice, and industry exploration, IDEATE allows students to build portfolios and gain internship experience in specific fields (e.g., arts, technology, business), applying these to real projects.
IDEATE has become a personalized university pathway alongside the IBDP, accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
IDEATE graduates have a 100% success rate in gaining admission to their desired universities in fields such as technology, law, architecture, business management, humanities, and the arts. As IDEATE graduate Crystal shared, "IDEATE gives me and my peers with specific goals more time and opportunities to pursue our passions, leverage our strengths, and realize our dreams."

In 2014, BCIS planted the first seed of early childhood education one kilometer from the main campus, introducing the “City for Children” concept: children as active owners of their campus, free to explore, sense, and grow in their own space.
Inspired by New York’s High Line Park and the idea of “environment as the third teacher,” BCIS opened Beijing’s first LEED-certified early childhood center — a green oasis in the bustling CBD.
The kindergarten embraces advanced early learning philosophies: inquiry-based, play-centered exploration, shared principles between home and school, and co-created learning methods that protect children’s curiosity and self-drive, building core competencies for the future.
A newly built Materials Lab offers limitless possibilities for imagination. In this “City for Children,” kids run freely, imagine wildly, and experience the world like in The Curious Garden picture book. On the rooftop garden, they grow vegetables, make jam, and participate in hands-on activities, feeling the real power of life and growth. An international team of educators supports over 300 young explorers from their first steps to confident beginnings.

BCIS is accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), Council of International Schools (CIS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and is a member of the College Board, East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS), Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS), and International Schools Athletic Conference (ISAC). It also collaborates with the International Principals’ Training Center (PTC) and International Task Force on Child Protection (ITFCP), and is a memeber of the Mastery Transcript Consortium (MTC).
Since its founding, BCIS has received authorization for the IBDP, PYP, and MYP programs, and undergone four joint accreditation reviews by IBO, WASC, and CIS. Each review has involved extensive self-study reports, hundreds of meetings, and thousands of community members, leading to deep reflection on BCIS’s student-driven education philosophy, quality teaching and learning, efficient management, and caring community culture — all testaments to BCIS’ continuous pursuit of excellence.
In November 2023, the accreditation team praised BCIS as “a true learning community that sets high standards and provides strong support for students; all community members benefit from ongoing learning.”

Entering the BCIS gymnasium, banners and trophies tell the story of 20 years of sports tradition and the “Warrior” spirit. With 884 teams, 221 trophies, and 69 championships, every number reflects the relentless effort of BCIS warriors.
From the 2008 U11 boys’ soccer ISAC championship to the 2010 U19 boys’ basketball ACAMIS Blue division title, and the 2023 double volleyball ACAMIS championships, BCIS athletes have written many legends. These rich experiences empower students with opportunities for growth and future success.
“Warriors” include not only students but also parents and teachers. Many teachers coach teams beyond their teaching duties, parents are active on sports fields, and student athletes often coach younger teams.
BCIS does not have tryouts or cut players; every committed student can pursue their passion. The “Warrior” spirit is about building physical strength, willpower, leadership, and teamwork — not just winning. Each warrior has the chance to challenge and surpass themselves, turning daily training into lifelong strength.

The YueCheng Education Research Institute (YERI) aims to share cutting-edge educational research, support professional development, and promote innovative reforms and practices. YERI collaborates with renowned universities, experts, and scholars worldwide, providing academic support to BCIS and affiliated institutions, broadening educators’ perspectives and deepening their insights.
To date, YERI has partnered with 42 global education experts, designed curricula, and hosted 265 workshops and six international education forums, engaging over 18,000 educators from 700+ schools and institutions nationwide.
With China’s basic education reform advancing, YERI began comparative studies on integrating national curricula in 2017, focusing on cultivating well-rounded individuals through core competencies and internationalization. Guided by the principles of inquiry, adaptation, sharing, and innovation, YERI pursues solid, innovative education.

In the summer of 2009, BCIS held its first graduation ceremony. Jiang Ruoyi, the sole graduate, stood confidently on stage in her gown, receiving the only diploma from the principal and delivering a heartfelt speech to teachers and fellow students.
Since then, every graduation season has been a warm farewell to youth and a hello to a brilliant new beginning. Prior to graduation, the campus is filled with blessings. Younger students form a “human tunnel” symbolizing growth, cheering on their seniors as they step into new journeys. The ceremony is marked by thunderous drumbeats, student bands, tassel turning, and cap tossing — moments etched with youthful passion. At this milestone, BCIS graduates set sail toward a wider world, continuing to write the school’s story.

One of the most unforgettable aspects of BCIS is its strong sense of community — encompassing all students, staff, alumni, and partners. By fostering a diverse, inclusive, and mutually supportive culture, BCIS expands its international network and builds a vibrant learning community with strong cohesion and identity.
The school connects with extensive external resources, organizing off-campus learning, sports competitions, and academic contests, helping students become active participants in society.

In 2007, BCIS became officially authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), welcoming its first DP student. The two-year DP is highly regarded by top universities worldwide, preparing students for success in higher education and beyond, fostering compassionate, lifelong learners.
The DP curriculum includes six subject groups plus core elements: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). Emphasizing deep, multidisciplinary learning and skill transfer, students engage in field visits, internships, research projects, and service learning, linking concrete experiences with abstract thinking.
BCIS offers both academic depth and broad social practice, nurturing students as thinkers, learners, and doers. To date, over 500 students have earned the IBDP diploma, consistently scoring above global averages, with some achieving perfect scores. 80% of students earn bilingual diplomas, and all diploma recipients receive university credits. These achievements reflect BCIS’s commitment to excellence and the courage and drive of its students.

Interdisciplinary & Transdisciplinary Inquiry 从“学科”到“跨学科”、 “超学科”的探究式学习


On August 28, 2005, BCIS opened its doors at 77 Baiziwan Nan Er Road in Beijing’s Chaoyang District. As the first international school founded by Chinese educators in Beijing’s Central Business District, BCIS welcomed its inaugural class of 87 students from 22 countries and regions. These students, together with 15 teachers from China, the UK, Australia, the US, and Bangladesh, embarked on a shared journey of learning and discovery.
Just eight months prior, the site was an empty field. Thanks to the dedication and tireless work of the BCIS team, a modern campus was built from blueprint to completion in a matter of months, ready to welcome future generations.
In May, before the teaching building was finished, friends from China and abroad planted saplings around a 300-year-old ginkgo tree on campus. Kites inscribed with the phrase “Roots to Grow, Wings to Fly” flew in the sky. On that day, Gerrit from Germany officially enrolled as BCIS’s very first student. Today, BCIS has grown to include 260 teachers from 32 countries and regions, and 1,500 students from 45 countries and regions.
A quiet moment remains vivid in memory: on the morning of August 28, 2005, after a night of preparation, cleaner Ms. Xu Xiaomei peacefully rested by the glass window, undisturbed — a symbol of the calm before the exciting journey ahead.
从这一天起,在北京CBD中央商务区,第一所由中国人创办的国际学校迎来了来自22个国家和地区的第一批87名学生。他们和来自中国、英国、澳大利亚、美国、孟加拉国的15位教师,共同开启了这段追梦的旅程。
有人问:“为什么中国人要办国际学校”。
倪先生说:“我们要办一所最好的世界学校。让中国学生成为中国与世界的桥梁,让国际学生了解中国、热爱中国,向世界传播中国文化。”
八个月前,这里还是一片空旷的平地。短短几个月的时间,从图纸到竣工,从建筑空间到专业教室,在无数坚持信念、日夜奋战的乐成伙伴的努力下,一所现代化的校园已经准备好迎接未来的成长故事。
五月的校园,教学楼还没有竣工,来自中外各界的大小朋友们围绕着三百年历史的银杏树,在校园的各个角落种下了一棵棵小树苗。标记着“立其根深、助其行远”的风筝,在校园里飞舞。来自德国的Gerrit这一天正式报名加入乐成,成为学校的第一名学生。时至今日,北京乐成国际学校已经拥有来自32个国家和地区的中外教师260名,来自45个国家和地区的学生1500名。
经过一夜的忙碌,2005年8月28日清晨,清洁阿姨许小美静静的睡在玻璃旁,无人去打扰的画面至今仍然历历在目......
