CONGRATULATIONS NAIKE ON PHD RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

Fei Gao

BCIS Class of 2017 graduate and BCIS Academic Scholarship recipient, Naike Ye, awarded PhD Research Fellowships at several top international research universities.

2020 was a challenging year as the coronavirus pandemic forced students around the world to study online. BCIS alumni, who would normally be studying at colleges and universities in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia or in Europe and Asia were unable to travel. For many alumni with family ties in Beijing, they took the opportunity to reunite and study together in our Alumni Study Lounge. Naike Ye (Class of 2017), could often be found in the lounge with his peers taking online classes and preparing applications for graduate programs.

Awarded a BCIS Academic Scholarship in 2016-2017, Naike reflects that his passion for science and research was inspired by his BCIS science teachers, and the support he received from his English and math teachers helped him to develop confidence. He expresses particular gratitude to Ms Zhou and Mr Patrick for their mentorship and guidance.

At the start of this academic year, while China's borders remained closed and many BCIS teachers were eagerly waiting to return, Naike volunteered as a Teaching Assistant. As our science teachers led their classes online, Naike was the resident expert in the laboratory, sharing his passion and guiding our DP Chemistry students.

Our teachers and students are now back on campus as usual. But, for many of our alumni, they continue to study online and to support each other in the Alumni Study Lounge. Naike is completing his final semester online and will soon graduate from Vassar College in New York with a BA in Chemistry and Education. However, his learning journey is far from over. Naike is keen to continue his scientific research as a PhD candidate at the interface of chemistry and biology and, with the current pandemic, there couldn't be a more important time to be exploring this field. Our teachers, students and fellow alumni were delighted to hear that Naike has recently been offered post-graduate research positions from several world-class research universities. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to an outstanding student and supportive member of BCIS Alumni Network. We look forward to seeing where his studies and scientific research will lead him next. Congratulations Naike!
