After the submission of online applications and supporting documents, successful families will be asked to participate in an interview. Read below for what to expect in an interview:

INTERVIEWS

Early Childhood Center and Elementary School

We consider each applicant very carefully and make sure your child is comfortable during the process. We evaluate the child's academic readiness, developmental readiness, and fit within our classrooms by talking with both the parents and the child. While we do not expect young applicants to be fluent in English, we do consider an understanding of the English language by both the child and the parents to be an advantage. The admissions team and the principals work together to get to know you and your child through the interview and admissions process. We observe the child's interactions with both the interviewer, as well as the parents.

Secondary School

We look holistically at each applicant, interviewing both the student and the parents separately. If the parents do not speak English, they may bring an interpreter with them to the interview. We look to understand the child's academic and extracurricular interests. We review transcripts, recommendations and previous academic testing before the interview and will discuss aspects of the child's history with them. The interview is also an opportunity to evaluate the child's ability to speak and understand English.

As English is the language of instruction, it is essential that students demonstrate fluency in English before admission can be considered. If English is not the native or first language of the student, he/she may have to provide a standard English test report prior to interviewing for admissions. Please upload the report to the online application for our reference.

APPLICATION FEE

A non-refundable, non-transferable application fee is applicable. For application to the 2022-2023 school year, the application fee is 3,000 RMB.

NOTE TO PARENTS

We have carefully considered and designed our admissions process to be as fair as possible for each student. We consider the fit of the family in our decision making. Please take the time to understand our school mission, vision, philosophy, and application process to ensure that BCIS’ educational philosophy and process is the best choice for you and your family.
