BCIS CLASS OF 2020 IB DIPLOMA AND IDEATE RESULTS

Fei Gao

BCIS challenges all students to explore their interests and passions, empowering high school students to select appropriate courses, inspiring graduates to make a difference as they enter best-fit universities and the rapidly changing world of work.

2020 has proved to be an extremely challenging year for students and teachers around the world. COVID-19 led to school closures last semester, a move to online learning and the cancellation of examinations for students in their final year of high school. We would like to take this opportunity to formally acknowledge the agility and resilience of our students and teachers in adapting to a rapidly changing situation, and for their positive attitudes as we faced the challenges together.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme examinations were cancelled for May 2020 and an alternative method of assessing students was introduced. BCIS, along with other schools, worked closely with the IB to ensure that our DP students received appropriate recognition for their studies. We are proud of our graduating Class of 2020 and congratulate them on their IB Diploma Programme and ID8 Diploma results. BCIS continues to exceed the global pass rate for the IB Diploma and surpasses global averages. Our Chinese language results are consistently high, with 70% of our 2020 graduates achieving a bilingual IB Diploma, reflecting the importance BCIS places on host country language and culture.

Our BCIS IDEATE Program continues to grow in popularity as a personalized alternative pathway to international universities. Fully accredited by CIS and WASC, the BCIS IDEATE Program comprises of up to 3 IB Diploma courses, high school courses, a self-directed project-based course, a learning portfolio and service learning and work experience. The pass rate for the BCIS IDEATE Diploma in 2020 was 100% and all IDEATE students were accepted to their preferred universities. This is indicative of the school's commitment to innovation, the quality of teaching and the commitment to self-directed, experiential learning by our IDEATE students.

The impact of COVID-19 in different countries is causing changes to how international universities deliver their new semesters. These changes and uncertainties have made university choices more challenging for our students and their families. BCIS' university guidance counselors have maintained constant communication with our graduating students and families throughout the summer to liaise with universities and provide personal support. We are delighted that all of our Class of 2020 graduates have made university choices that best meet their personal needs in such uncertain times.

Whether traveling to study internationally, or staying in China to begin university studies online, the BCIS Alumni Relations Team is keeping our graduates connected with BCIS and our network of alumni around the world.
