MUSIC AROUND THE WORLD

Greg Choi

Our Elementary School (ES) students recently captivated the crowds with their amazing voices and musical talent at this year's Winter Assembly. All students from Grades 1-5 proudly took to the stage and sang their hearts out, receiving great applause from the excited audiences that gathered. Focusing on "Music Around the World" this year, each grade level sang songs from different countries. Some of the fine hits included the tunes: "Little Donkey" from China; "Jesse James" from the USA; "Kusimama" from Eastern Africa; "Fanga Alafia" from Nigeria; "Shake the Papaya Down" from Jamaica. A song titled, "El Chocolate," was sung in Spanish and even garnered enthusiastic crowd participation. The ES Choir, which consists of students from different grade levels, also stepped into the spotlight to sing a couple of fine tunes, including the festive "This Magic Season." For the grand finale, all Elementary School students gathered together on stage for a raucous rendition of the powerful song, "Pompeii," which was a great ending to another job well done by the talented students, teachers, and all involved. Special recognition should be given to the ES Music Teachers, Ms. Chen and Mr. Ellis, for another excellent assembly. Congratulations to all!
