CK CURRICULUM

The Courtyard Kindergarten curriculum is designed by the Yuecheng Education Research Institute specifically for early years children. It combines the latest research and best international and Chinese practices. We see every child as unique and capable, with a natural love of learning. This viewpoint drives how we plan and how we teach. It allows us to scaffold the learning, to extend the thinking and to support each child as they face challenges. The curriculum focuses on language development and early literacy learning that is delivered through our authentic English environment. The curriculum also addresses children’s social and emational development alongside academic learning. This is what we call ‘whole child’ education.

Primary years programme

Through its inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, students are challenged to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts.

What is play-based pedagogy?

Play-based pedagogy is a learning approach where children learn through active, hands-on experiences. Based on careful teacher observation of the strengths, needs, interests, and input of the children, there is purposeful flexibility in the provisions of the daily schedule, the environment, resources, interactions, and learning opportunities provided.

Why is play important?

Current research indicates that play is essential for the healthy development of:

Intellectual growth – Play allows children to make sense of their world.
Creativity – Play allows children to develop attributes and attitudes like flexibility, spontaneity, curiosity and persistence.
Social Skills – Play allows children to form and explore friendships.
Language and Literacy Development – Play allows children to confidently explore new sounds and noises associated with phonological awareness, as well as print awareness and letter knowledge.
Numeracy Development – Play allows children to compare, classify, quantify, and sort; problem solve; pattern, position, and measure.
Physical Development and Health – Play allows children to develop and refine gross and fine motor skills through active and repeated use of the large and small muscles.
Emotional development – Play allows children to develop self-regulation and emotional awareness as part of their confident, courageous, and positive self-concept.
